*I have had to take an unplanned hiatus for personal reasons, hoping to be working again very soon.
My main focus is concert photography and long exposures (for examples, please visit my website). But from time to time I do like to photograph people who are not rock stars. Those portraits and nudes are what you'll find in my portfolio here.
I am based in Oshkosh, but within reasonable driving distance of Chicagoland & the Twin Cities/St. Cloud. I generally prefer to work "on location" rather than in a studio, so I don't mind traveling.
My primary interest is concert photography, which is my specialty. I love to work with musicians who need promotional photos & images for album covers. I also have an extensive collection of unique images that can be licensed for album art. My photos can be seen on the new CD by Northern Room, as well as on their website. I was staff photographer for the Funtup Film & Art Festival in 2004 and 2005, my images can be seen on the FunTup site as well. I also created a series of authorized bootleg concert CDs for Jacobstone. When not shooting bands, I have been experimenting with long exposure photography. I have exhibited a great deal of my work in several local galleries and juried shows in recent years. I also have a piece that will be featured on the cover of the Wisconsin Review this spring.
I am relatively new to photographing people (other than musicians), and I recognize that I have a lot yet to learn, so I'm seeking more opportunities to experiment & grow. I understand the need to build a quality portfolio, so I am open to mutually beneficial TFCD. If there is anything you would like to try, a new dimension you would like to add to your portfolio, I am very open to hearing and implementing your ideas. I would like to dabble a bit more into fashion, portrait, and wedding photography. Not in the typical flawless glossy glamour style done by so many studios, but in the style that I bring to my personal work. I prefer working with existing light whenever possible. I want the resulting images to be more natural, timeless, raw, and gritty, more rooted in reality. Although I use one from time to time, I have an aversion to images that appear that they are obviously shot in a studio. Although I prefer more natural looks with little or no makeup, I also think it would be fun to team up with a MUA and do things at the other extreme. I'm always looking for new people to work with, experienced or not. I enjoy collaborating with models and prefer to not limit the ideas they bring to the shoot, as some of my best images have come that way. I am also patient, respectful of boundaries, and want my models to be comfortable and happy above all else. All work will be age appropriate. If you are under 18, please have a parent contact me.
I am interested in experimenting more with nudes, but that is not the highest priority at the moment. I am very particular about the way I shoot nudes because I do not want to create images that are overtly erotic or sexual (though I realize it's largely in the eye of the beholder). I prefer instead to depict the beauty of the feminine form without objectifying & sexualizing, or to use it in combination with other elements to create an emotional impact. I think this is more of a challenge, and when it works it is far more satisfying. I like exploring the body as landscape, and I enjoy experimenting with different forms and textures. I want to contribute something original and beautiful if I'm going to work in this genre. My images are not meant to titillate, I have no interest in lingere, swimwear, photography that is overtly erotic or anything that makes a model look cheap, but there are plenty of photographers who are more than willing if that's what you're looking for.
I'm open to TFCD if the work piques my interest and/or suits my portfolio needs - but paid work is given top priority. I have compensated past models with CDs and a percentage of the net from any prints that have sold when I've exhibited my work. Right now I am unable to pay models for time, b
